The places, explained

Where each of these actually happens

Nashik–Trimbakeshwar

Twin venues on the Godavari, about 28 km apart, sharing one ritual calendar. Currently mid-cycle.

Haridwar

Har Ki Pauri's Brahma Kund, where the Ganga meets the plains after the Himalayas.

Ujjain

On the Shipra, one of India's seven Sapta Puri sacred cities, in Madhya Pradesh.

Prayagraj

The Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati meet.

How this order is determined

Why this exact sequence, and not another

  1. Each city runs its own clock

All four cities follow independent 12-year cycles based on Jupiter's zodiac transit, so their events interleave rather than happening in a single rotating order.

  2. Ardh Kumbhs fill the gaps

Haridwar and Prayagraj's additional Ardh Kumbh cycles are why they appear more frequently in this sequence than Nashik or Ujjain.

  3. Near-term dates are firmer than far-term ones

Confidence in the exact date decreases the further out you look — 2027 dates are largely locked, while 2038–39 is a projection based on the established pattern.
