Before you go
Timing your visit
Book 2–3 months ahead, minimum
Accommodation near the main ghats fills first for Amrit Snan days. For the very biggest bathing days, book six months out if you can.
Avoid arriving on the peak Snan day itself
Roads and trains are busiest in the 24 hours around a major Amrit Snan. Arriving a day early and bathing the following morning is often calmer and just as auspicious within the wider festival window.
Check the weather for your specific city
Nashik and Ujjain's climate differs meaningfully from Haridwar and Prayagraj — pack accordingly for the season and city you're visiting.

- A physical copy of your ID — network congestion can make digital copies hard to access

While you're there
Staying safe in the crowd
Agree a meeting point
Fix a landmark meeting spot with your group before entering crowded ghat areas — phone networks routinely overload during peak Snan hours.
Bathe in the early hours
Crowds are noticeably lighter and the experience calmer in the hour or two before sunrise.
Follow on-ground authorities
Police and volunteer marshals manage crowd flow along fixed routes during peak days — following their direction, even if it feels indirect, is the safest path.
Getting there
All four host cities are served by rail, with special festival timetables added during major Snan periods, and by road via national highways that see temporary traffic management. Nashik and Ujjain both have nearby airports; Haridwar is best reached via Dehradun; Prayagraj has its own airport with expanded festival-season connectivity.
