National Highway 19 — part of India's Golden Quadrilateral network linking Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai — passes through Prayagraj, and the 84.7 km Prayagraj Bypass Expressway was purpose-built to route heavy through-traffic around the city rather than through it.
A new expressway is closing the Haridwar gap
The Ganga Expressway's completed Meerut–Prayagraj stretch is being extended with a planned spur toward Haridwar, intended to shorten what has traditionally been one of the longer inter-city road links on this network.
