Not every day of a Kumbh is a bathing day, and not every bathing day carries equal weight. Here's how the Snan calendar within a Kumbh actually works.
The hierarchy
Three tiers of Snan
Amrit Snan (Shahi Snan)
The handful of royal bathing days led by the Akhadas in ceremonial order — the ones this whole calendar is built around. See Amrit Snan Dates.
Parva Snan
Other significant lunar or solar occasions within the Kumbh window — equinoxes, eclipses, and named Ekadashis — that draw large but not the largest crowds.
Daily Snan
Ordinary daily bathing, observed throughout the Mela's duration by resident and visiting pilgrims without a specific ceremonial designation.
